The first book of Earthsea is a tale of wizards, dragons and terrifying shadows. The island of Gont is a land famous for wizards. Of these, some say the greatest - and surely the greatest voyager - is the man called Sparrowhawk. As a reckless, awkward boy, he discovered the great power that was in him - with terrifying consequences. Tempted by pride to try spells beyond his means, Sparrowhawk lets loose an evil shadow-beast in his land. Only he can destroy it, and the quest leads him to the farthest corner of Earthsea.

I think i struggled with this book far too much than i should have. It's an interesting fantasy novel, but for me the chapters were far too long. I like short, sharp bursts.

I novel is good, it just gave me a hard time concentrating. The young character i had high hopes for. I wanted him to become a great wizard. But he seemed a little niave at times and that shown in the face of summoning the evil spirits.

The book then goes on with him trying to run away from said spirit who takes on a formation of the character, so its a clash. But then deciding you can't always run away from your problems, our hunted, becomes the huntee.

A interesting book nontheless but probably needs another read to truely understand.
