How to Find your (First) Husband

Title: How to Find your (First) Husband
Author: Rosie Blake
Type: Paperback
Read: 14th June - 26th June 2016
Rating: 4/5
Published: 2nd June 2016 by Corvus Books

It's a beautiful day in 1994 and the turn-out in the school playground is fantastic. Isobel is eight years old and marrying Andrew Parker, the boy of her dreams. Life is perfect. Then the ceremony is over, and a week later so is the marriage. Twenty years on and Isobel is dressed as a prawn handing out promotional fliers outside an L.A. fish market. Her career is going nowhere and her love life leaves a lot to be desired. Nothing Isobel hoped for has gone to plan. Then, she catches sight of Andrew, her first husband, in the background of a TV news item and wonders: if she can track down Andrew, will she recapture the happiness that she felt all those years ago? Isobel travels the globe to find her first husband, via Cornwall, Devon and a remote Malaysian island, but is he really what she is looking for?

I just adore Rosie, her books and writing are just so happy and make you smile and take you to all these fun places. The latest instalment is when Iz goes on a quest to find her first husband, Andrew. Whom she married in school and has dreamt of ever since. He's the one. Or least that has Iz see's it and no-one else will ever come close. Forget they've not seen each other for years!

After a freak chance of catching a glimpse of Andrew on TV, Iz ups and leaves LA to go back to England to find true love. But he's not there and its another trip to Malaysia... Does Iz find the love of her life?

Rosie captures everything fantastically. The descriptions of the remote Island sound beautiful and you wonder if such things exsit ever. There are a few interesting characters along the way, we have Iz's best friend Mel, who is the ultimate best friend. They're amazing together, we meet the gorgeous photographer Zeb and Andrew.

It's a fun book where you'll giggle and cringe at some of the things Iz is doing. You do sometimes (least i did) want to try knock some sense into her but you know she's forgiven. I really can't wait to see what is next for Rosie!

Stranded

Title: Stranded (Maggie O'Dell #11)
Author: Alex Kava
Type: Paperback
Read: 31st May - 8th June 2016
Rating: 5/5
Published: 27th February 2014 by Sphere

For decades, tired travellers have stopped at rest areas on America's epic highways to rest, refuel and get a bite to eat, but little do they know that one man's rest stop is another's hunting ground. For years the defenceless, the weary and the stranded have been disappearing along the highways and byways, vanishing without a trace.

When FBI special agent Maggie O'Dell and her partner, Tully, discover the remains of a young woman in a highway ditch, the one clue left behind is a map that will send Maggie and Tully on a frantic hunt crisscrossing the country to stop a madman before he kills again.

As the body count rises and Maggie races against the clock to unmask the monster who's terrorising the nation's highways, she turns for help to a former foe who seems to have an uncanny knack for guessing what the killer's next move will be. But as she gets closer to finding the killer, it becomes eerily clear that Maggie is the ultimate target.

Wolf by Wolf

Title: Wolf by Wolf (Wolf by Wolf #1)
Author: Ryan Graudin
Type: Paperback
Read: 22nd May - 30th May 2016
Rating: 5/5
Published: 5th November 2015 by Orion Childrens Books

Once upon a different time, there was a girl who lived in a kingdom of death. Wolves howled up her arm. A whole pack of them-made of tattoo ink and pain, memory and loss. It was the only thing about her that ever stayed the same. Her story begins on a train.

Germania, 1956. Over ten years since the Nazis won the war. 18-year-old Yael is part of the resistance, and she has just one mission: to kill Hitler. But first she's got to get close enough to him to do it.

Experimented on during her time at Auschwitz, Yael has the unique ability to change her appearance at will. The only part of her which always remains are the five tattooed wolves on her arm; one for each of the people she's lost. Using her abilities, she must transform into Adele Wolfe, Germany's most famous female rider and winner of the legendary Axis Tour; an epic long distance motorcycle race from Berlin to Tokyo, where only the strongest (and wiliest) riders survive. If she can win this, she will be able to get close enough to kill the Fuhrer and change history forever.

But with other riders sabotaging her chances at every turn, Yael's mission won't be easy. . .

I probably would never have picked up this book had it not been in the very first illumicrate box. But its taken me ages to read even though its such a cracking book. Set in the time where Hitler was in charge, we meet Yael a young girl who can change skin, she can take on the form of anyone so long as she can see a picture of them first. So with this sercret Yael is given the mission to kill Hitler, live on TV. But first she must get close enough to him and to do that she must shapeshift into the great Adele Wolfe ther winner of a past Axis race. Yael must compete in this one as Adele and win.

I'm never good with books based on true stories and history in general. Although the Hitler part is true, i'm taking a mad guess that the shapeshifting thing his army never conqured. But this book is addictive. It did confuse me slightly at first, and we do change from the past when Yael was a child in Auschwitz being experimented on, to the present and what she is trying to achieve and the obsticals in her way. You want to know if Yael suceeds and how she changes is just amazing.

The axis race is just mental, i enjoyed all the boyish-ness of it all. It's a tough race and how characters survive and what they do just to survive makes for good reading. There is a huge twist at the end of the story and i was shocked!! But i really can't wait to see what happens in the next book when it finally comes out this year.
